Mostafa Nakhaei told IRNA on Friday that the philosophy of formation of the SCO in late 20th century was to prevent the US and NATO penetration into Asia, as the SCO member states have occasionally underlined the need for closing of the US’ military bases in the region.
The Iranian member of parliament pointed out that the very precise and intelligent diplomacy of the Raisi administration pave the way for initiating Iran's membership in the SCO.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization enjoys populated countries, which possess good amount of energy resources; so, they are considered a very big pole in the world that can invest in Iranian market and help create job opportunities for the Iranians, he added.
The full membership of Iran in the SCO also showed that the Islamic Republic has been capable of holding negotiations and pursuing its active diplomacy during the hard sanction period in order to expand its collaborations with aligned states in particular in economic and trade ties.
The member states of the SCO are the biggest producers and consumers of energy in the globe; thus, the membership will provide Iran with an extraordinary opportunity, he noted.
Nakhaei went on to say that the SCO member-states can utilize a common currency to conduct financial transactions and economic exchanges with the aim of protecting economic interests of the members and nullify the West-imposed sanctions on the member countries.
According to the legislator, the Iranian government and private sector can use the opportunity of participating in the regional and international market; so, the Iranian private sector should be supported by the administration in this respect.
He also urged the administration to create a group of experts to back the private sector in order to pave the ground for their presence in target markets.
The role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is very determining, he said, calling on the economic department of the ministry to pursue the goal, and that it can cooperate with other ministries in Iran aimed at providing the private sector with the opportunity to have a say in international markets.
The Islamic Republic of Iran’s official member of the SCO was accepted in the 22nd summit of the organization in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. However, its full membership is scheduled to take effect from April 2023.
